Affordable Housing Month 2023 Highlights

May is Affordable Housing Month

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate, learn, and build this year’s Affordable Housing Month!

Whether you attended one of our events in-person, online, or just shared one of our social media posts, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping to make this month a success.

AHM Kickoff Celebration

We loved seeing so many friends and supporters at our annual Kickoff Celebration on May 4th! Thank you for joining to eat, drink, learn, celebrate, and build community.

Congratulations to our three affordable housing heroes — Cathy Eberhardt, Mike Rawson, and the Raise the Roof Coalition — who were honored for their contributions to housing policy and advocacy in the East Bay.

In addition to honoring our housing heroes, this year the EBHO team brought an interactive component to our Kickoff Celebration where we asked you to envision the future of our community!

A Month of Affordable Housing Events

EBHO and our partners hosted a total of 16 events across the East Bay, including educational workshops, expert and resident panel discussions, grand openings, and new development groundbreakings.

We hope you were able to join us at some of these events to celebrate and learn more about the work being done for affordable housing across the East Bay!

Membership & Operations Associate Aziza Crowder shares EBHO materials at the Avance event.

Collaborating with Local Libraries

This year we worked with our partners at the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California to bring affordable housing resources to our local libraries.

The Alameda and Contra Costa County libraries celebrated by sharing the EBHO events calendar as well as a recommended reading list for folks to learn more about housing justice.

TikTok in the Suburbs

As a part of Shift the Bay, a coalition of housing organizations across the Bay Area working on affordable housing communications strategy, East Bay Housing Organizations worked with our regional partners to launch a TikTok account for Affordable Housing Month.

This was an experimental project aimed at reaching a new audience — youth age 16-25 living in the Bay Area’s suburbs.

EBHO and our partners scripted, produced, and edited 11 videos throughout the month which have received more than 700,000 views.

Relaunching the Study Room

Each May for Affordable Housing Month, EBHO relaunches an updated version of our online Study Room. The Study Room is an online educational resource that contains information about why housing is so unaffordable today, as well as organizing tips and proven solutions to these complex problems.

You can support the Study Room by checking out our incredible advertisers, displayed at the bottom of each page.

It’s not too late to purchase an advertisement of your own and reach over 6,000 viewers annually. For more information, please contact kiki@ebho.org.
