Institutionalizing Housing as a Human Right: Lessons from the 4th International Social Housing Festival

May 22nd @ 1:30 pm 3:30 pm

Join the East Bay Gray Panthers (EBGP) for a discussion of lessons learned from the 4th International Social Housing Festival (ISHF) held in Barcelona last June! The conversation will be led by EBGP Co-Convenor Betsy Morris who attended the festival as a representative of the National Council of Gray Panther Networks.

The ISHF is hosted by Housing Europe, the European Federation of Public, Cooperative and Nonprofit Housing Developers. Founded in 1988, Housing Europe is a network of 42 national and regional federations and 15 partner organizations across 31 European countries. Together they manage around 25 million homes — about 11% of existing dwellings in Europe!

Is a similar “big tent” federation possible in the Bay Area? Can we also grow a permanent stock of housing choices outside of speculative real estate markets?

Join the conversation on May 22nd with representatives from key stakeholder groups including EBHO, Tenants Together, Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, the Oakland Housing Action Working Group, the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority, and representatives from U.C. Berkeley. For panelist updates and to register, visit eastbaygraypanthers.org.

This event is part of EBHO’s Affordable Housing Month calendar of events.
