Join California Community Builders, UnidosUS, and the UC Berkeley Terner Center for Housing Innovation to discuss findings in housing that normally don’t get much attention: middle-income homeownership in California, specifically for communities of color.
As home prices and rents rise, the legislature has taken action to expedite the production of housing, but much of this new housing isn’t affordable to low- or middle-income families. The fact remains that California homeownership rates lag behind the national average, and this is not because of lack of interest, but because of lack of affordability.
This webinar seeks to expand the housing conversation by centering middle-income Californians, middle-income Californians of color, and homeownership. We will start with an overview of the landscape of housing and homeownership for middle-income California, then focus in on Californians of color, then dive into trends in Latino homeownership. After presenting the landscape of homeownership for Californians of color, we will discuss policy ideas and recommendations to help the missing middle.
