OAKLAND — East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) has issued the following statement on the announcement that the Oakland A’s have entered into a purchasing deal for a site in Las Vegas.

“We are disappointed to hear about the Oakland A’s decision to enter a purchasing deal for a site in Las Vegas, thus confirming their decision to leave Oakland.

“East Bay Housing Organizations supports Mayor Sheng Thao’s decision to end negotiations with the A’s. We appreciate Mayor Thao’s resolve to ensure that Oakland gets the affordable housing and community benefits we deserve.

“We applaud Oaklanders — especially those from West Oakland, Chinatown, Old Oakland, and Jack London — the City, EBHO members, and everyone else who has participated in productive discussions about the potential for a Howard Terminal ballpark development over the past several years. Together, we have outlined a roadmap to a future, equitable development at Howard Terminal.”
