As of April 1, most residents of Contra Costa County are no longer protected by COVID–19 eviction protections. The only recourse residents have from eviction is hoping the courts enforce their right not to be evicted while they are waiting for state rent relief.
EBHO is supporting the Raise the Roof Coalition’s Courtwatch Initiative to ensure the courts are enforcing renters’ rights. Participants will be trained to attend public, in-person proceedings to gather information on whether evictions are increasing and tenants are being treated fairly under the law now that emergency protections have expired.
Volunteers are asked to commit to two in-person shifts during the month of May on either Tuesdays or Thursdays at 1:15 PM.
