You’re invited to attend a virtual information session Wednesday, October 30 at 12pm (Zoom) to learn more about the rezoning process in Concord and what YOU can do to help shape what kind of community Concord will be!
If you answered yes, then we need you to engage in the Concord rezoning process that is happening now and will help shape the future of the City for years to come. There’s no time to wait!
After searching for sites to build more dense housing across the city, and finding none that could support affordable housing in the most affluent neighborhoods, Concord has been in the process of choosing sites to rezone in the interest of promoting more inclusionary development patterns. This process has attracted very strong opposition in those neighborhoods, where there have been fear-based reactions and misguided stereotypes associating affordable housing with increased crime and lower property values. Although these voices have been the loudest to date, we know that there are so many more Concord residents and workers that have a different vision of the city. We believe that there are many more of us who believe in a diverse and inclusive Concord with housing for everyone. We just need to activate and amplify those voices!
The Concord City Council will be voting on the current sites that have been proposed for rezoning on Tuesday Nov. 12th. This info session will help give you the information that you need to engage and make your voice heard. This is our chance to counter the narrative that all homeowners and other residents oppose more affordable housing and equitable opportunity. It is our chance to say that we recognize the harms of segregation and will not accept it in our city any longer.
