In light of recent statements from Dolores Huerta, Ana Murguia, and Debra Rojas recounting the abuse and sexual violence they faced while working alongside Cesar Chavez, EBHO reaffirms our core belief that everyone deserves to feel safe in their communities. We stand in support and solidarity with the survivors and thank them for their bravery and leadership in this moment.
The EBHO office will be closed tomorrow, March 31st, as we have observed this State holiday since its creation. However, as we acknowledge the harm that Cesar Chavez has caused and do not wish to venerate him on this day, we will explore other ways to uplift the history and contributions of the Farmworker and broader Labor movement moving forward.
We invite you to join us in learning more about the farmworker movement and the contributions of other individuals who are often overlooked.
As Dolores Huerta shared in her official statement:
“The farmworker movement has always been bigger and far more important than any one individual. Cesar’s actions do not diminish the permanent improvements achieved for farmworkers with the help of thousands of people.”
