Rev. Sophia DeWitt

Sophia DeWitt (she/her) is the Chief Program Officer at East Bay Housing Organizations. She has more than 20 years of experience in leadership positions in the nonprofit sector and in housing justice work. She joined EBHO in 2017.

Sophia is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and is a native of Fresno. She holds a Master of Divinity from Emory University and a B.A. from Mills College.

At EBHO, Sophia oversees much of EBHO’s external work, including its Policy Team and supporting the Organizing, Membership and Communications Teams. Her local policy work, in collaboration with the rest of the Policy Team, has centered on Alameda, Berkeley and Concord and focused on securing new funding for affordable housing development, transit oriented development, housing element policy and implementation and tenant protections across jurisdictions. During her time at EBHO she has also supported the organization during the executive transition by stepping into the Interim Co-Executive Director role.

Prior to joining EBHO, Rev. DeWitt served at Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries (FIRM, Inc.) for 11 1/2 years directing and designing multiple programs to serve and empower refugees of all generations, from early childhood to elder programs, with a special focus on housing justice and health access.
