Joey Flegel-Mishlove

Joey Flegel-Mishlove (he/him) is the Policy Associate at East Bay Housing Organizations.

A firm believer in every person’s right to safe, stable, and affordable housing, Joey is working towards a world where working people set the agenda when it comes to producing, preserving, and protecting affordable homes in our own communities. Drawing on lessons from feminist, anti-racist, disability justice, and abolitionist organizers, Joey believes in movement spaces that prefigure the world we hope to live in: built on inclusivity, empowerment, and deep, trusting relationships.

Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Joey moved to the Bay Area in 2020 and has spent his professional life working on political and legislative campaigns with SEIU 2015 (California’s Long Term Care Workers) and AFSCME (a union of public sector employees). He has also enjoyed work at a cooperatively owned bike shop and as a gardener/landscaper. Joey currently lives in Berkeley where he serves on the City’s Commission on Labor.

Outside of work, Joey is learning to play soccer with Oakland’s LeftWing FC and loves ice cream, crossword puzzles, music, and waterfalls.
